Give Your Family the Gift of Peace of Mind

Sep 25, 2014

Fall is here and there is a cool nip in the air. Harvest is underway and probably the last thing on your mind is preparing for your future or thinking about your family farm’s legacy. But as the holiday season gets closer, the best gift you can actually give your family is the gift of succession planning.

ASA is offering you an opportunity to place the gift of succession planning under the tree and give your family the peace of mind they deserve, by hosting an ASA Succession Planning Workshop on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Moline, Ill.

Here is what a grower from Indiana said after attending the ASA Succession Planning Workshop in Fort Wayne, Ind. this past August:

“My wife Linda and I, being close to retirement age thought we needed to start looking at ideas to help continue our family’s business. Our family is a fourth generation family farm with and ag business in Portland Indiana. We needed to start the process because we wanted to continue our legacy and pass it on correctly to the family. This workshop has been very thought provoking.”

The Succession Planning Workshop is titled “Five Keys to Effective Succession Planning.” Through the five keys, you’ll learn about the planning process, good communication strategies and how to overcome obstacles. Utilizing tips from this session will help ensure the farm remains in the family, provides financial security and offers career opportunities for generations to come. Kids on fence - eLegacyConnect

The workshops are open to all soybean producers. ASA members have a registration fee of $50 for the first person in a family and $30 for each additional family member. For non ASA members, the registration fee for the first person in a family $90 and each additional person is $70. To register, click here.

The workshops are taught by Kevin Spafford, founder of Legacy by Design. Legacy by Design is a firm dedicated to succession planning for farm families and agribusiness owners. Over the last 10 years, Spafford has spearheaded initiatives to improve the way farmers, ranchers and agribusiness owners engage in the succession planning process.

The ASA Succession Planning Workshop is sponsored by Farm Credit, AGCO and the Illinois Soybean Association.
