The ASA Capitol Hill
Legislative Forum is an educational program designed to help
growers who are interested in learning more about the policy
making process.
The Forum is held in
Washington D.C. in conjunction with the ASA July Board
meeting. Interested growers participate, along with the ASA
Board of Directors in learning sessions on the latest policy
topics that affect soybean producers such as: Climate
Change Legislation, Biodiesel tax incentives, Implementation
of the Farm Bill etc. Congressman and Senators who are
soybean champions on these issues, speak at these learning
sessions.
Growers and state delegates
spend the next day lobbying on Capitol Hill on the very
policy issues that affect soybean producers. They also
attend the annual Congressional Reception held on Capitol
Hill to promote ASA’s policy objectives and to network with Congressman and their staff.
The Forum is sponsored by
Monsanto. As part of the Forum, specific NOPA companies
agree to sponsor growers from various states to attend the
program. ASA works with it’s state affiliates to identify
growers who may want to participate in this program. Sponsorships
cover the cost of the participant’s airline flight, hotel,
meals, ground transportation etc.
If a grower is interested
in learning more about this opportunity, they should contact
ASA Corporate Development Manager, Michelle Siegel at
314-754-1328 or
msiegel@soy.org.
