ASA, Industry Continues to Promote Safe Use of Seed Treatments

Jun 12, 2014

ASA reminds growers that it is the responsibility of each farmer who uses biotech seeds to ensure the good stewardship of his or her seed supply. That’s why ASA teamed up with the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) and CropLife America (CLA) to provide farmers with the Guide to Seed Treatment Stewardship, an industry-wide initiative to promote the safe handling and management of treated seed online at www.seed-treatment-guide.com.

Endorsed by ASA, National Corn Growers Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Cotton Council and the Agricultural Retailers Association, the guide provides farmers and seed companies with critical information and up-to-date guidelines for managing treated seed effectively to further minimize the risk of exposure to non-target organisms.

The Guide contains recommendations for such processes as the planting of treated seed; the safe use of seed treatment product; the safe handling and transport of seed; the selection of treatment product; treated seed labeling; and the storage of treated seed.

The Seed Treatment Stewardship Guide is available online and in PDF format at www.seed-treatment-guide.com.
