ASA & NBB Applaud Key Biodiesel Legislation

Sep 24, 2003

The 25,000 producer-members of the American Soybean Association (ASA) and the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) salute Congressman Kenny Hulshof (R-MO) and other key Members of the U.S. House of Representatives for last week’s introduction of House bill, HR 3119, a companion bill to S 1548, that the U.S. Senate has approved with provisions that include tax incentives for biodiesel and ethanol.

"HR 3119, will serve as a rally point for Members of the House who want to show their support for biodiesel and ethanol incentives," said soybean producer Bob Metz, who is Chairman of the National Biodiesel Board and a member of the ASA Executive Committee. "Soybean producers are working to get the provisions of S 1548 and HR 3119 included in the Energy bill and the Highway Extension bill, both of which are still under consideration by Congress."

HR 3119, which replaces earlier Hulshof biodiesel legislation HR 1279, is now the major biodiesel tax legislation in the House. "This bill will extend incentives beneficial to farmers while adding much-needed funding for our nation’s transportation projects. It's better for the environment. It lessens our dependence on foreign oil. It’s a win-win solution," stated Hulshof.

"Congressman Hulshof has been a strong leader for biodiesel tax provisions in the House," Metz said. "He has been determined and an untiring supporter of the effort to include biodiesel provisions in an energy bill."
