ASA Participates in Waterways Industry Meetings and Capitol Hill Visits

Feb 12, 2015

This week the Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI) held their annual meeting in Washington, D.C. focused on priorities for federal funding and following up on the successes achieved in 2014.  ASA Washington staff attended the WCI board meeting as well as lobbying visits to congressional offices. The waterways infrastructure priorities for fiscal year 2016 are: $360 million in modernization funding for the Inland Waterways Trust Fund (the full amount of IWTF revenues); increased funding for the operation and maintenance activities of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers affecting inland and coastal navigation; and funding from the Investigations account of the Corps of Engineers to continue preconstruction engineering and design (PED) of one or two lock modernization projects on the Upper Mississippi River and Illinois Waterway System authorized in title VIII of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007.
