Jerry Big Data 2015 Podium

ASA Director Jerry Bambauer speaks at the Big Data Workshop in Ohio this week.

ASA joined with the PrecisionAg Institute on Feb. 16, for a Big Data Workshop at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Columbus, Ohio.  The event attracted 200 farmers, industry suppliers, ag retailers, government agency officials and consultants. The workshop began with opening remarks from ASA Director Jerry Bambauer (OH) and Ohio Agribusiness Association President and CEO Chris Henney.  Bambauer discussed the important role precision agriculture and data play in farming today, particularly in terms of the potential these tools hold for helping farmers demonstrate sustainability.  Bambauer also mentioned ASA’s work with the American Farm Bureau Federation, National Corn Growers Association and many other agriculture groups to develop the Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data.

Farmers, university and industry experts in precision agriculture and data management gave presentations about the value of data, security and privacy concerns, standardization needs, data and sustainability, and best management practices to maximize the value of on farm data.
