ASA Representatives and Senate Prepare for Cuba Hearings

Apr 16, 2015

ASA continues to participate in the U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba (USACC). This week the USACC met with several Member offices of the Senate Agriculture Committee in preparation for next week’s hearing on Cuba. The goal of the meetings was to educate staff and Member’s on the potential agricultural opportunities in Cuba if trade barriers were lifted. Congressional action is required in order to normalize trade with Cuba including ending the embargo. There are two witnesses on the panel that will represent the USACC.

In additional news, the Obama Administration announced on Tuesday that Cuba will officially be removed in six weeks from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.  It is one of the last hurdles toward reopening embassies in each other’s capitals.
