ASA Submits Comments to EPA on Glyphosate

Mar 29, 2018

American Soybean Association (ASA) submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the draft human health and ecological risk assessments for the registration review of glyphosate, an herbicide widely used by U.S. soybean producers and with a history of safe use for more than 40 years.

The comments emphasized the importance of biotechnology and its role in promoting sound conservation practices.

“ASA strongly supports biotechnology and believes the development of biotechnology-enhanced soybean varieties and products can benefit farmers, consumers, and the environment,” ASA states. “Glyphosate-tolerant soybeans have enabled soybean farmers to better control weeds and implement no-till and conservation tillage practices that save fuel, reduce erosion, and protect the environment.”

The public comment period is open until April 30, 2018. Individuals or groups that would like to submit comments can submit them online via this link.
