ASA/WISHH Continues Soy-Focused Aquaculture Project in Pakistan

Oct 22, 2015

Pakistan October 15

Test netting is performed in tilapia ponds at a fish farm in Pakistan.

The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) program is in the process of implementing Phase 2 of a four year aquaculture project in Pakistan, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Phase 2 of FEEDing Pakistan, as the program is called, seeks to increase the use of, and ultimately the demand for, soy-based aqua feed in Pakistan by addressing the following objectives:  improve feed management, increase feed production and increase feed demand.

As part of the project, ASA/WISHH has provided technical assistance to select tilapia farms with training focused on the collection of accurate data, as well as proper feed usage and storage. Test netting over the past months has allowed those on the farms to learn the process of measurement as well as its importance. The value of quality, soy-based feed is consistently stressed throughout all project training activities.
