ASA/Zeneca Initiate Environmental Leadership Group

Mar 20, 1997

ASA and Zeneca Ag Products Company announced they are jointly initiating a new program called the ASA/Zeneca Environmental Leadership Group which will prepare a select group of Association leaders to represent ASA in matters pertaining to water quality, food safety, conservation compliance, property rights and endangered species. Legislative activities and policy initiatives focusing on environmental interests are a major and ongoing activity of the ASA, which maintains full time representation in Washington, D.C. "Producers and Association leadership alike recognize that national producer interests are best served with the direct input and involvement of knowledgeable producers," stated ASA Corporate Relations Director, Joel Harris.

Participants have been selected from among members of the ASA Public Affairs Committee, State Executives and state soybean association staff for this unique, first-ever program. Three representatives from the United Soybean Board will also participate in the educational backgrounding. Training will take place April 7-10, in Washington, D.C. The program also provides funding to help support travel and policy efforts on environmental issues. "Zeneca’s support of this new program is greatly appreciated," Harris added.

This very comprehensive, hands-on training and educational experience will equip ASA producer-leaders to represent ASA on environmental issues at the national, state and local level throughout the year, as appropriate opportunities arise. ASA and Zeneca are committed to this partnering program for both the 1997 and 1998. "This is important to maximize mutual value, and to achieve the consistency and continuity that are essential for producer participation in industry working groups and the legislative process," Harris said.
