Call Senators in Support of Amendment Affirming Market-Oriented Farm Policy

May 23, 2013

logo-SACOn Thursday, a bipartisan group of Senators advanced Amendment 1119, a Sense of the Senate Resolution supporting market-oriented farm policy and opposing any program with high fixed target prices and/or planting requirements, or requiring farmers to choose between programs that cover different risks. These provisions are pillars of the Price Loss Coverage program included in the House Agriculture Committee’s farm bill. The Sense of the Senate Resolution is in alignment with ASA's policies and principles for the Farm Bill, and ASA strongly supports its adoption.

Sponsors of the resolution, which could come up for a vote later today, are Senators from major soy-producing states. They include Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Mike Johanns (R-Neb.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), with more cosponsors still being sought.

It is critical that all ASA members call their Senate offices and ask their Senators to support Amendment 1119.

Contact information and talking points on Amdt. 1119 can be found at the Soy Action Center.
