Safe Use of Treated Seeds is a Must

May 12, 2017

As planting season is underway across the countryside, it’s especially important to take care to keep treated seeds from entering the supply of U.S. grains and oilseeds.

These treated seeds in commodity shipments are a multi-commodity problem which can jeopardize U.S. markets, both foreign and domestic.

When treated seeds find their way into bins that go to foreign markets, they’re rejected, thus interrupting international trade deals and damaging the reputation for properly managing pesticides the U.S. has worked so hard to earn.

The Guide to Seed Treatment Stewardship is an industry-wide initiative aimed at promoting the safe handling and management of treated seed and resource for growers with questions about managing treated seed effectively to further minimize the risk of exposure to non-target organisms.

ASA wishes a safe and successful planting season to all our growers, and strongly encourages safe use of treated seeds.
