Senate Finance Committee Working on Highway Bill Funding

Jun 26, 2014

The Senate Finance Committee has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, June 26 to mark-up Chairman Ron Wyden’s (D-OR) draft measure to fund the Highway Trust Fund. The Chairman’s proposal provides $9 billion in revenue needed to fill in the Highway Trust Fund shortfall for the rest of the year, through an assortment of tweaks to the tax code. Republican leaders have expressed opposition to the Wyden proposal due to its reliance on increasing tax revenue instead of reducing spending. The Republicans have prepared a competing proposal, which would come up with the $9 billion in needed funding by largely relying on program cuts and more lenient federal regulation.
