Senate to Vote on GMO Bill Next Week! Have You Contacted Your Senators?

Jun 30, 2016

In a 68-29 vote Wednesday night, the GMO labeling compromise from Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow passed its first test in the form of a procedural vote. Now, the bill will come before the full Senate on Wednesday afternoon, followed by a likely final vote next Friday.

We are extraordinarily close, but continue to need your support on this important issue. Please continue your calls and emails to Senate offices between now and next Wednesday. Your Senators need to hear how important biotechnology is to your operation. You can email your Senate offices directly via the Soy Action Center, or you can dial the Coalition for Safe Affordable Food at 1-866-464-6633 to be connected with both Senators from your state.

As so many of you know, passing this legislation is important not only to avoid a patchwork of state labeling laws, but also to maintain demand and increase consumer trust for the meal and oil that come from your soybeans. The Roberts/Stabenow compromise sets a national standard for labeling of biotech content that avoids stigmatization of biotechnology, while providing consumers with the information they need.

Please take a moment today, this weekend and next week to contact your Senate offices and urge their support!
