Kevin Scott discusses soybean and ag issues with BNSF Vice President John Miller aboard a BNSF business car.

Soy growers boarded a train last week for a meeting to discuss rail transportation issues and ag exports.

As members of the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Ag Rail Council, American Soybean Association (ASA) Governing Committee members Bill Gordon (MN) and Kevin Scott (SD), along with Executive Director Bill Schuermann attended the fall council meeting held on a train in Minneapolis, Minn.

Attendees participated in discussions on crop outlooks, rail pricing scenarios, the Washington, D.C. political and legislative climate impacting agriculture, plus rail shipping updates and harvest preparation plans from BNSF.

Soy growers, among other commodity growers in the ag industry in the upper Midwest, rely heavily on freight rail to move their products to both domestic and export markets, especially to the Pacific Northwest corridor and export facilities.
