Soybean Farmers, Stakeholders Urged to Submit Comments on Biodiesel Volumes

Jun 28, 2016

The American Soybean Association (ASA) urges all members and state soybean associations to submit comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding the Proposed Rule for biodiesel volume requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The deadline for comments to EPA is July 11. Draft comments are available here for states and individuals to use. ASA will also be submitting comprehensive comments.

The Proposed Rule calls for 2.1 billion gallons of biomass-based diesel in 2018. As a point of reference, the biomass-based diesel requirements for 2016 and 2017 are 1.9 billion and 2.0 billion gallons, respectively. The biomass-based diesel utilization in the U.S. was approximately 2.1 billion gallons in 2015 and is expected to exceed that amount in 2016. As you can see, we are already at the levels EPA is proposing for 2018 and the volumes of imports have been increasing the past several years and are expected to continue to grow.
There is a 60 day public comment period running through July 11 and states and members are encouraged to submit comments. Instructions for submitting comments are provided at the Soy Action Center.
