Soybean Industry Supports Biodiesel Industry on Capitol Hill

Jun 22, 2017

The soybean industry played a leading role in the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) membership meeting held in Washington, D.C. this week.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) was represented by Director Rob Shaffer (Illinois) as well as ASA Washington staff and numerous soybean farmers, state soybean association staff and industry partners. Updates were provided on the outlook for the biodiesel tax credit, Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) implementation and litigation and trade issues.

The advocacy efforts with lawmakers on Capitol Hill focused on extension and restructuring of the tax credit, particularly the push to build the number of cosponsors on the marker bills (S. 944 and HR 2383) introduced by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Representative Kristi Noem (R-SD).  All ASA members and stakeholders are urged to contact their Members of Congress to request they co-sponsor the bills to demonstrate support for the biodiesel tax credit.

On the Administration side, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal for RFS volume requirements for 2018-19 is expected to be released any day. NBB and ASA are supporting biomass-based diesel volumes for 2019 at 2.75 billion gallons and total Advanced Biofuels volumes of 5.25 for 2018.
