WISHH Analyzes Senegal Feed, Poultry Opportunities

WISHH consultants Sam Rochell, an assistant professor of poultry science at University of Arkansas, and Khalid Benjabdeljelil, a USSEC consultant, tour a facility to be used for one of the Senegal poultry feeding demonstrations.

The World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) obtained funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Emerging Markets Program (EMP) to analyze challenges and opportunities in the development of the feed and poultry sectors in Senegal.

In partnership with the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of USDA, WISHH is targeting Senegal to promote trade in U.S. soy for use in the feed, poultry and aquaculture sectors.

To introduce new customers to U.S. soy products, WISHH purchased and shipped a container of U.S. soybean meal to be used in several feeding demonstrations in the poultry and aquaculture sectors in Senegal. In fact, WISHH is conducting feeding demonstrations for improved feed efficiency in poultry production with local companies such as Nouvelle Minoterie Africaine (NMA SANDERS).

Five hundred day-old chicks will be raised on feed containing U.S soybean meal and 500 others will be raised on feed containing non U.S soybean meal.

The aim is to improve feed quality and facilitate U.S. soybean meal demand and enhancements in the feed supply chain by demonstrating the superior performance of U.S. SBM. The findings of these poultry feeding demonstrations will be disseminated during a conference to be held September 2018 in Dakar, Senegal.

The overall goal of the program is to encourage trade between Senegalese feed producers and suppliers from the U.S. The premise of this demand will come from the enhancement of broiler and layer production attributed to improved feed conversion ratios through the use of high quality feed ingredients.
