Members of the American Soybean Association (ASA) Action Partnership (ASAAP) met in Essex, Vt. to discuss issues, regulations and policy affecting the soybean industry.

In addition to ASA policy updates and an industry forum, panels focused on agriculture sustainability, GMO labeling and the initial debate in Vermont, and tax reform and its affects on agriculture. The labeling discussion was particularly spirited. Panelists pointed out the challenges local farmers encountered during the labeling debate and that Vermont farmers are quick adopt technology and, in fact, 97 percent of corn planted in the state is actually GMO.

After lively and informative panels, discussions and industry updates, ASAAP participants explored Shelburne Farms, a historic farm known for its educational outreach activities and sustainability efforts. The tour provided the perfect backdrop for thought-provoking discussions about connecting people with farming and food production.

ASAAP is a collaborative effort of all soybean industry sectors with a stake in the growth and profitability of the industry. The forum provides the opportunity for ASA’s state affiliates, state and national checkoff organizations, industry partners and national grower leaders to engage in critical industry focused dialogue.
