Leadership at its Best

Through the years, ASA has developed and maintained a base of farmer-leaders who effectively address national policy issues impacting soybean farming.

Sponsored by:

The Leadership At Its Best program, sponsored by Syngenta, provides participants with advanced leadership training and the necessary communication skills to make a difference in American agriculture while advancing into leadership positions on a national level. This results in the creation of a highly-effective collective voice in Washington, D.C., serving the interests of soybeans and U.S. agriculture.

The program is open to current directors or committee chairs of state soybean associations who have a strong desire to assume top leadership positions. Training sessions cover leadership, agricultural issues, communications and media training. Part of the training also includes visits with legislators on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Many states have a selection process to determine who will represent their state in the Leadership At Its Best program. Check with your state soybean association office regarding your state’s nomination process for this program. The program allows for about eight soybean farmer-leaders from different states to represent the program. ASA encourages altering the states that participate in the program each year.

Syngenta partners with ASA to lead the training sessions, which prepare growers to be informed advocates, whether speaking to Congress on government issues, talking with the media, or tackling other public speaking opportunities.

Since its inception in 1991, more than 400 ASA members have graduated from this program.
