EPA’s Final Rule on Heating Oil Promising for Biodiesel

Sep 26, 2013

As reported by the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) earlier this week, the EPA has issued a final rule that expands the definition of heating oil under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), and confirming that biodiesel can be used for heating oil under the RFS to generate renewable identification numbers, or RINs. The rule also clarifies that biodiesel used to generate process heat, power generation, or other stationary functions are also approved for RIN generation.

“Clearly,” said NBB in an alert to members, “this is great news for the biodiesel industry. It also further highlights the common sense approach of EPA when applying its regulatory structure to every day applications.”
