FAS Admin to Speak at WISHH, Indiana Soybean Alliance Protein Conference

Jul 05, 2018

Ken Isley, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) Administrator

Ken Isley, recently appointed U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) Administrator, will give the keynote address at the Affordable Protein Supply: Solving the Institutional Meals Puzzle workshop at Purdue University on July 30, 2018.

The American Soybean Association’s (ASA) World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), University experts and industry stakeholders are organizing a conference aimed at improving the protein content of school meals in developing countries.

Conference sponsors include the Indiana Soybean Alliance, DuPont Nutrition and Health, Insta-Pro International and the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance.

Isley was invited to speak about the importance of trade in improving people’s nutrition and health, since the U.S. is a major exporter of protein products and grains, as well as helping fund international school nutrition programs. Purdue’s Pilot Lab, Food Processing Innovation Lab and the Soybean Innovation Lab, housed at the University of Illinois (UIUC) will provide technical input.

Private food companies, U.S. commodity groups, foreign government officials and NGOs will discuss how to incorporate protein to meet dietary guidelines affordably and advocate for permanent policies to provide balanced meals to school kids, hospital patients and other food service customers.
