Monthly President’s Message

Apr 30, 2018

Hello Soy Family,

For all of us involved in the U.S. soy industry, April was about defending the importance of trade with China, and I want to thank each and every one of you for the work you’ve done this month to promote U.S. soybean growers. Your commitment to your work is remarkable and impactful.

We all know the numbers— China imported $13.9 billion of U.S. soybeans in 2017, 60 percent of total U.S. exports and nearly one out of every three rows of annual soy production. A 25 percent tariff on U.S. soybean shipments to China will have a lasting effect on soy growers and the rural economies that depend on them.

The work ASA, state affiliates and grower leaders have done this month— from arranging and fielding thousands of interviews and amplifying messages on social media, to participating in ASA’s fly in which visited 49 Congressional offices last week— has been vital in sharing soy’s story in calling for the administration to rethink the tariffs and instead allow soy be part of a solution.

While April may be coming to a close, our work is not done. Thank you for your continued engagement and I look forward to working with all of you in the months to come as we promote the need for trade with China and continue to share soy’s story.
