As some of you know already, former ASA Kentucky Director Jack Trumbo was in a serious accident on his farm in Simpsonville, Kentucky, this weekend. Jack sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to University of Louisville Medical Center where he has been under monitoring since his arrival. Word from the team at KSA is that Jack’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, which is a good sign, and he has successfully made it through the first of many surgeries along the road to recovery. We ask for your prayers and best wishes for Jack and Gwyn and the entire Trumbo family.
Jack is a long-time fixture at ASA, involved in our soy family since coming to the KSA board in 2000. Currently, he helps to guide our association as part of the World Soy Foundation board and World Initiative for Soy in Human Health committee. Jack is an active Farm Bureau member at the county and state level, most recently named the Kentucky Farmer of the Year by KFB for 2014. Jack also served as past president of the Shelby County Extension Service, and continues to assist farmers in Shelby County on his FSA county committee.
Most importantly, though, Jack is a cherished member of our soybean family, and his tragic accident reminds all of us that spring planting season is one that presents safety hazards. Ours can be a dangerous industry, and we as an association are personally invested in the health and well-being of every one of the men and women that make our family so strong. As you each get back into the fields over the coming week, we hope that you will take the extra time to double and triple check for the safety of yourself and those in your operation.
In the meantime, we ask that you send your prayers and best wishes to the Trumbos, and we will endeavor to keep you updated as Jack recovers. Cards may be sent to Jack and Gwyn at P.O. Box 767, Simpsonville, KY 40067.
Thanks and be safe,
Wade
