The Ag Data Transparent Board of Directors met last week in Indianapolis to review 2018 and plan for 2019. ASA currently chairs the Board, and will continue in that role in 2019.
The Ag Data Transparency Evaluator was created in 2015 as a tool to improve farmers’ trust of ag data platforms, simplify the contracts for easier understanding, and provide a resource for farmers to evaluate ag data platforms.
Certification is based on compliance with the “Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data” signed by 37 farm groups and companies in 2014, including ASA. The principles center around ownership, control, portability and choice in ag data.
Milestones for the Ag Data Transparent initiative in 2018 include certification of the first major equipment manufacturer, livestock data collection company, Canadian and Brazilian companies, and soil analytics company. The core principles have also been translated into French and are available on the website.
Questions for the Board included how to respond to interest from international companies in becoming certified, as well as how to improve outreach and marketing.
