APHIS Extends Comment Periods for Biotechnology Petitions

In early November 2013, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced the availability of plant pest risk and draft environmental assessments prepared in response to two petitions for nonregulated status for a 30-day public comment period. The comment periods for both the BASF Plant Science LP, genetically engineered (GE) herbicide-tolerant soybean, and Okanagan Specialty Fruits, Inc., GE browning-resistant apple were set to close on Dec. 9, 2013.

APHIS is extending the comment periods to Dec. 16, 2013, due to technical issues with the Federal Register website that may have prevented the public from commenting during the first week of publication. Additionally, the links in the Federal Register notices were incorrect and may have caused confusion for commenters. The correct links are provided below:
