Clare Sollars, of Washington Court House, Ohio, is the recipient of the 2017-18 Soy Scholarship award, sponsored by BASF and the American Soybean Association (ASA).

The scholarship is a $5,000 award presented to an exceptional high school senior who excels in both academics and in leadership roles and plans to pursue a degree in an agriculture-related field at an accredited college or university.

Sollars is a 4.0 honor student, who maintains a number one ranking in her class, while participating in sports, choir, student government, FFA , 4-H and more. She not only participates in, but leads in these activities. Along the way she’s gained numerous awards, recognitions and has been described as a “person of high character with a tremendous amount of potential.”

When she’s not busy with school, extra-curricular activities or volunteering, Sollars helps out on her family farm—operating the tractor mower, loading out grain trucks and managing general maintenance for their aquaculture barn.

Sollars will pursue a bachelor’s degree in food engineering at The Ohio State University’s College of Agriculture and College of Engineering.

BASF and ASA presented the 11th ASA Soy Scholarship to Sollars last week in San Antonio, Texas during Commodity Classic, ASA’s annual tradeshow and convention.

“Through ASA’s partnership with BASF, we’ve been able to invest in young leaders within the agriculture industry for more than a decade,” said ASA President Richard Wilkins, “Clare’s compassion for the world’s growing need for available, nutritious food, as well as her academic background, will give her the tools she needs to help advance the industry.”
