ASA President Ray Gaesser participated in a round table discussion along with Myers, Howard G. Buffet and NRCS Chief Jason Weller this week at the Cover Crops Conference, focusing on farm experiences and goals for the future. This session, subsequent speakers and break-out sessions were broadcast to hundreds of locations throughout the U.S.
ASA leaders joined more than 300 attendees this week at conference lead by chair Dr. Rob Myers NCR-SARE and the University of Missouri.
The conference focused on educating and encouraging cover crops to decrease erosion and improve soil health, with the goal of increasing the use of covers to 20 million acres from the 2-3 million acres there are today.
“This was a great opportunity to network with others who care for the land,” said Gaesser of the conference.
There were several other farmer speakers at break-out sessions concerning: seed supply, broadening industry involvement, new types of equipment for cover crops, policy barriers and Incentives, education and outreach.
