ASA Meets with Ocean Policy Staff as Plan is Finalized

Jan 24, 2013

ASA Washington staff, along with staff of the Soy Aquaculture Alliance, met with the Director of the National Ocean Council Office regarding the Administration’s draft National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan. The Plan was created as the result of a June 2009 Presidential Memorandum charged with developing recommendations for a National Ocean Policy.

After the draft plan was released last year, ASA and the United Soybean Board submitted joint comments focused on developing a domestic marine aquaculture industry and asking that more attention be given to finfish in the final plan. The importance of coordinating research among agencies and creating an efficient regulatory process for aquaculture permitting were topics of the meeting.

The final National Ocean Policy is expected to be final later this spring.
