American Soybean Association (ASA) CEO Steve Censky met again last week with other commodity, farm organization and agricultural association leaders to coordinate policy strategies.
This continued a series of quarterly meetings that were initiated nearly two years ago to facilitate the collective strength of our membership on the key issues of importance to farmers and ranchers. Topics discussed at the meeting included, work to date on preparing for the 2018 farm bill; plans to build a coalition with the nutrition community to gain both urban and rural lawmaker support for the next farm bill; outreach to both the Clinton and Trump campaigns to make them aware of issues of importance to farmers and ranchers; identifying political appointment positions of importance to agriculture and sharing this information with the transition teams for each the presidential candidates; and engaging with the White House, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) during the last four months of the Obama Administration, about farmers’ concerns that EPA decision-making with regard to crop protection products is off track.
