ASA Officers Discuss Trade, Biotech, More During Meetings with USTR, House Ag Leaders

American Soybean Association (ASA) President Wade Cowan, Chairman Ray Gaesser and First Vice-President Richard Wilkins met with policymakers following the ASA Board meeting last week.

In a meeting with Sharon Bomer Lauritsen, assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Agricultural Affairs and Commodity Policy, they discussed China’s biotech regulatory process, as well as pending trade agreements and normalizing trade relations with Cuba. In subsequent meetings with House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX) and Collin Peterson (D-MN), they discussed implementation of the 2014 farm bill, country of origin labeling, Chinese biotech approvals, and HR 1599, the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act. ASA CEO Steve Censky joined the group.
