ASA Board Member Jim Andrew, ASA Washington staff, and state soybean representatives joined other agriculture stakeholders and the transportation industry in a summit to examine current and future transportation issues. The summit, hosted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Grain & Feed Association and the Soy Transportation Coalition, was held in Chicago July, 30-31.

The summit examined all modes of transportation utilized by agriculture in the U.S. and globally. Panels and presenters included experts and representatives from truck, rail, and waterways and focused on the role that transportation plays in agricultural competitiveness and the future challenges that need to be addressed to maximize efficiency for agricultural producers and processors to deliver products to global customers.

Keynote speakers included U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (R-Ill/) and USDA Acting Deputy Secretary Michael Scuse. Both highlighted the need for the federal government to invest in transportation infrastructure to maintain and create jobs and as a means of growing the economy.
