This week the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) held a membership meeting in Washington, D.C., which was attended by ASA Board member Mike Cunningham, ASA Washington representative Tom Hance and numerous soybean farmers and state soybean association staff members. A primary focus of the meeting was the defense of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and the Required Volume Obligations (RVO) that will be determined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 2014 and 2015.
Cunningham, the ASA representative to NBB and NBB Governing Board member, also serves on the task force that is developing recommendations on the appropriate RVO for biomass-based diesel and the total Advanced Biofuel portion of the RFS for 2014 and 2015. The task force met several times this week to continue the discussion and analysis of the projected feedstock and biodiesel production levels as well as potential import and export levels over the next two years. The analysis will be the basis for NBB’s recommendations to EPA and comments that the biodiesel industry submits to whatever RVOs that EPA proposes.
