This past summer, ASA became the first farmer-led organization to join the PrecisionAg Institute, an organization focused on advancing precision agriculture technology and its efficiency, stewardship and profitability for farmers. The use of precision agriculture tools and methods continues to play a growing role in the sustainability and productivity of U.S. farm operations.
ASA Vice President and Ag Data Work Group Chairman Ron Moore (IL) recently joined ASA staff member Michelle Hummel in participating in a PrecisionAg Institute Board meeting in Chicago. The group discussed future research and educational opportunities in regards to Precision Ag and the use of ag data. Other participants in the meeting included representatives from John Deere, SST, Wilbur-Ellis, Climate Corp, TopCon, Midwest Laboratories, WinField, Millenium Research, ESRI, Brase LLC and Meister Media. This past summer, the PrecisionAg Institute was a key partner in the InfoAg Conference, an event held in St. Louis that was completely focused on PrecisionAg technology and education. ASA Director Joe Steinkamp (IN) participated in a video-taped interview on the PrecisionAg Institute center stage at this event to discuss the role of precision agriculture in farming and the opportunities the technology holds to improve sustainability.
