ASA/WISHH Presents CAST Success in World Aquaculture Trade Show

Dec 01, 2022

WISHH and the CAST-Cambodia team attended World Aquaculture Singapore this week, where they discussed present key program successes, such as in-pond raceway systems that WISHH had designed and built to overcome Cambodia’s unique fish production challenges.

ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health Program and the Commercialization of Aquaculture for Sustainable Trade-Cambodia Project attended a world aquaculture conference in Singapore this week. The group gathered at World Aquaculture Singapore, a major international trade show where exhibitors present the latest innovations in aquaculture technology as well as exchange ideas. The show provided the perfect backdrop for CAST to present key program success and learnings since the project’s inception.

The team took the opportunity to discuss locally designed and operated climate smart technologies, such as in-pond raceway systems that WISHH had designed and built to overcome Cambodia’s unique fish production challenges. In Cambodia, like other places in Southeast Asia, the dry season poses challenges that could lead to post-harvest loss. These and other technologies like aerators and solar drying domes help increase aquaculture production and efficiency. As the industry grows, so could a reliance on U.S. soy for fish feed.

In addition, members of the CAST team also used their attendance at the conference to make contacts for technical suppliers in the Southeast Asia region. Strengthening the supply chain in the region furthers the growth of aquaculture in the countries in which WISHH works.
