The American Soybean Association (ASA) and a coalition of nearly 60 groups wrote to House and Senate members of the Agriculture Appropriations subcommittees last week in support of maintaining the crop insurance program during the appropriations process.
“As the Appropriations Committees consider annual spending bills, we respectfully urge you to protect crop insurance and recognize its central importance to farmers, lenders and all of rural America,” the letter states. “In these challenging economic circumstances, it is Federal crop insurance that will provide lenders the assurances they need to provide capital to America’s farmers and ranchers.”
The letter signers include farm groups, crop insurance interests, lenders and a significant number of conservation organizations.
