ASA’s Gaesser Tackles Weed Resistance at N.C. Workshop

Nov 07, 2013

ASA First Vice President Ray Gaesser was in North Carolina last week to take part in a Scenario Planning Workshop produced by Bayer CropScience.

The workshop focused on weed resistance management, and Gaesser and other participants were challenged to provide ideas that would have impact on the outcome of weed resistance. Ideas had to consider the external world influence-political, economic, social, technological, environmental and regulatory. Ideas were then distilled down to four scenarios containing both the extremely positive and negative and a couple in the middle.

During the workshop, Bayer officials pointed out concerns that the seriousness of the weed resistance problem may not be fully realized within the industry.

Gaesser and Bayer expressed interest in further meetings on this critical issue for soybean farmers.
