The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) recently visited Myanmar, where there’s growing interest in U.S. soy proteins in human foods and soybean oil.
ASA/WISHH Asia Division Director Alan F. Poock met with the trade team members who visited the United States this past August. Poock answered questions about the current U.S. soybean harvest and how importers could obtain price quotes from U.S. exporters.
After Myanmar, Poock travelled to Cambodia to meet with five companies that were interviewed as part of the Emerging Markets Program (EMP) Market Assessment.
Cambodia is a new market for ASA/WISHH and there are plans to implement activities starting in 2017. Poock met with both human food processing companies and an animal feed ingredient supplier during his trip. Companies are looking forward to learning more about U.S. soy and how to incorporate soy into their existing products.
Prior to heading back to the United States, Poock stopped in Singapore to meet with the USSEC Southeast Region staff on coordination and to share updates on his trip.
Two U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) funding sources funded the trip – the Market Access Program (MAP) and EMP.
