ASA/WISHH Attends Global Feed Conference in South Africa

Apr 18, 2013

ASA's World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) was in Sun City, South Africa, to attend the Global Food and Feed Conference, hosted by International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and the African Feed Millers Association (AFMA). While there, WISHH Executive Director Jim Hershey met with Joel Newman, president of the American Feed Industry Association; Thad Simons, CEO of Novus International; and representatives of the U.S. Agency for International Development-funded Southern African Trade Hub.

Animal agriculture is growing rapidly in Africa and the industry appears to be absorbing any increases in soybean production the regional farmers are able to produce.

This week, Hershey traveled to Cape Town South Africa and met with the U.S. Wheat Associates, which has had a regional office in Africa for more than 20 years. Soy protein and wheat flour can be blended in many useful and economic combinations.
