The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program (ASA/WISHH) Executive Director Jim Hershey was in New Orleans this week at the Oilseed and Grain Trade Summit, organized by Soyatech and High Quest Partners. Hershey was a speaker on the Market Focus - Africa panel, along with Levin Flake, a USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) officer, previously posted in Lagos, Nigeria. Hershey spoke about market development, U.S. poultry exports and the growing feed and poultry sectors in Africa. He also described the public-private partnership that makes up the cooperator relationship between the USDA and ASA, with WISHH and USSEC implementing market development activities. Africa is receiving increased interest from trade and WISHH has a number of FAS and soybean checkoff-funded activities building markets in that region.
