Coming up in early June, the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program (ASA/WISHH) will host the 2014 Midwest Workshop with the National Soybean Research Laboratory (NSRL) at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, with additional support from the World Soy Foundation (WSF). The workshop—including targeted participants from Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs), multilateral institutions, industry representatives and government officials—focuses on providing a forum for sharing innovative school nutrition practices and building links and partnerships between stakeholders within the sectors of government, nonprofit and commercial.
ASA/WISHH will include U.S. commodity groups engaged in support activities to McGovern Dole projects and programs as a way to link U.S. products to markets and sustainable school feeding programs in specific countries throughout Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Some topics to be covered at the Midwest Workshop include how to address various challenges, including securing funding sources, developing sustainable school lunch programs and action planning. Participants will also have the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with protein foods.
On Sunday, June 8, participants will have the opportunity to attend a tour of Doug Schroeder’s farm in Bellflower, Ill.—including a catered dinner right on the farm. Please visit our website for additional information and to register for the Workshop.
