ASA/WISHH recently organized several animal feed activities in Cambodia. U.S. soybean and soybean meal exports to Cambodia grew from zero in 2010, to over 52,000 MT in marketing year 2017. U.S. soy exports are expected to continue to grow to Cambodia given a growing population and growing economy, which lead to an increasing demand for protein in the country.
Last week, ASA/WISHH Division Director Alan F. Poock and In-Country Representative Sambath Sak met with the five participants who attended the September customized animal feed course held at the Northern Crops Institute and staff from CE SAIN, which is conducting the animal feeding demonstrations at two locations. Dr. Bob Swick, an animal feed technical consultant, met with animal feed mills on feed formulation, production and safety during his trip.
The week’s highlight was the animal feed conference, which was attended by over 45 feed industry representatives. A wide range of topics were covered, including how to buy U.S. soy products, the benefits of using U.S. soybean meal and how to use extrusion in animal feed production.
Speakers included Poock, Scoular Business Manager Walter Lanza, Instra-Pro Sales Director Gregory Komnick and Swick.
The week’s activities were all funded by USDA’s Emerging Markets Program (EMP).
