Newly elected WISHH Committee Chairman, Daryl Cates, tastes recently launched U.S. soy-based products at Alimentos in Guatemala in 2015.

American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health Program (ASA/WISHH) sponsored the attendance of two participants from Guatemala at select courses during the 2016 Annual Meeting and Food Expo of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) in July.

The attendees represented Alimentos, one of the largest food processing companies in Central America, which imports over 4,500 MT of U.S. soy flour per year for inclusion in their various food products. The food technologists from this company noted that participation in these courses helps improve their production processes, helps them make more informed decisions regarding new product development for targeted consumers and helps the company find quality ingredient suppliers.

As Alimentos looks to expand their product line and improve upon their current portfolio, WISHH works to ensure that U.S. soy remains an important ingredient of choice. WISHH will continue to support Alimentos with technical assistance and training as needed.
