Throughout the past few months, the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) has worked together with a group of women entrepreneurs in El Salvador to educate more women on the nutritional value of soy.

The seminars focused on the important nutrition soy-based foods can provide and also taught Salvadoran women how to incorporate soy products, including textured soy protein and soy flour, into local dishes. These women run a small company called Nutravida, that produces and sells soy milk, as well as soy-based foods like cookies, breads and more. The women make their products from U.S. soybeans they purchase from a local importer, and are also running a small restaurant, which sells healthy lunches made with soy to members of the surrounding community.

Nutravida’s soy milk is sold in local universities and to local daycare and childcare centers. More than 100 women have been reached through these seminars, all of whom have reported an increased understanding of the nutritional value of soy.
