This week the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) hosted a team of representatives from Central American food processing companies at the INTSOY conference at the University of Illinois. The course, focused on the processing and marketing of soybeans for meat, dairy, baking and snack applications, is organized by the National Soybean Research Laboratory (NSRL).
Representatives from Alimentos, a large Guatemalan-based food processing company responsible for the import of over 7,000 metric tons of U.S. soy flour per year, have been especially interested in opportunities surrounding the development of new, soy-based products. A representative from one of the companies in El Salvador focused on snack production hopes to develop a soy-based extruded snack upon return. Select members of the group traveled to DuPont Nutrition & Health in St. Louis on Monday to learn about specific soy products available for inclusion in their product lines.
