In recognition of April as Soyfoods Month, the American Soybean Association (ASA) World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) launched the Faces of Trade and Development educational program with two new videos. The program explores how WISHH connects trade and development through trade linkages that fill protein supply gaps.
The videos feature two experts who have worked closely with WISHH on comprehensive approaches to food security challenges and innovative strategies in lasting programs that offer affordable and delicious nutrition.
The first video features Wilna Oldewage-Theron, Ph.D., a registered dietitian in South Africa, who explained soy’s role in global food security and how it contributes to overcoming the stubborn challenges of stunting and obesity. Oldewage-Theron is also a professor of nutrition at Texas Tech University and adjunct professor University of Zululand in South Africa.
The second video featured a Guatemalan/U.S. soy success story from Alimentos S.A. Food Engineer Paola Escobar. Both Oldewage-Theron and Escobar are alumna of ASA/WISHH’s training through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cochran Fellowship Program.
