The American Soybean Association (ASA) World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) presented a poster on the role of soybean trade in the intensification of the Cambodian livestock sector at the First International Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (SAIN) Conference this week. More than 140 attendees from 16 countries participated in this conference, put on by Kansas State University’s Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification (SIIL) the Center of Excellence on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (CE SAIN) at the Royal University of Agriculture in Phnom Penh.

Asia Division Director Alan F. Poock also delivered a lightening talk and follow-on round table to introduce and explain how ASA/WISHH works with the private sector and complements public research and development activities.

SIIL and CE SAIN aim to increase the level of engagement with the private sector and appreciate the partnerships that ASA/WISHH is developing with feed mills and other commercial enterprises in Cambodia.

U.S. soybean and soybean meal exports to Cambodia eclipsed 40,000 metric tons (MT)  in 2016 and 2017. The role of U.S. soybean trade, combined with ASA/WISHH and partner activities, will spur animal and aquaculture sector intensification due to enhanced technical capacity in feed formulation and consistent supply of high quality feed ingredients and products.

ASA/WISHH feed sector activities in Cambodia are ramping up in 2018 with support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Emerging Markets Program (EMP). ASA/WISHH will launch swine and poultry feeding demonstrations, a feed conference, feed mill technical assistance visits and will bring a trade team to the U.S.
