ASA/WISHH Program Completes Myanmar Emerging Market Program (EMP) Market Assessment

Jun 05, 2014

The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) program recently submitted the EMP Market Assessment for Myanmar to USDA/FAS that was conducted in the second quarter of FY14.  Myanmar (sometimes known as Burma) has a population of around 63 million in Southeast Asia, with a growing economy rich in natural resources.

The market assessment was conducted by AgriSource, an agricultural consulting firm based in Bangkok, Thailand owned by Americans.  United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC), Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Bangkok Post, ASA/WISHH, and the Myanmar trade industry worked closely with researchers in completing the market assessment. The assessment identifies a strong interest in soy proteins, especially in the aquaculture, animal production and human food sectors and will be used by ASA/WISHH for planning and implementing future activities in Myanmar. USDA’s Emerging Market Program (EMP) funded the assessment.
