Dr. Kim Koch, a feed technical consultant from the Northern Crops Institute (NCI) in Fargo, N.D., recently made technical visits to Cambodia, focused on feed formulation, best production practices, feed safety and the benefits of using U.S. soybean meal.
Cambodia is increasing purchases of U.S. soybean meal, which totaled over 50,000 MT during the FY17 marketing year. Koch visited six feed millers over eight days, culminating with two days at AgriMaster, one of the largest feed mills in Cambodia and a buyer of U.S. soybeans.
Koch’s visit is one of two technical assistance visits planned in 2018 funded by the Foreign Agricultural Service’s (FAS) Emerging Markets Program (EMP). Other EMP funded animal feed activities include swine and poultry feeding demonstrations and a feed conference.
This trip coincided with a visit to Cambodia by Jim Hershey, executive director of WISHH, who met with AgriMaster’s General Manager Rady Chea, who is building Cambodia’s first factory for aquaculture feed. Hershey also met with other stakeholders in the growing Cambodian aquaculture industry, the target of a pending U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress project that is seeking proposals due May 17.
