During the week of Aug. 5-9, a trade delegation of 12 individuals from South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria and Senegal attended a week-long “Soy in Baking” short course at the Northern Crops Institute in Fargo, N.D. The program, made possible with funding from USDA’s Global Broad-Based Initiative (GBI), included instructional sessions and extensive hands-on baking demonstrations.
Upon completing the course, the delegation traveled to Minnesota to continue their soy education. Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council representatives Sam Ziegler and Allie Arp arranged for the team to visit Brad and Linda Leiding’s farm in Lake Crystal on Sunday. While there, they were given an in-depth tour and dinner.
On Monday, the team visited with Pam Schubbe at CHS, Inc. and toured CHS’s soy flour production facilities. Trade team members represent companies that are importing soy flour produced at the Minnesota facility.
The team continued its visit to southern Minnesota with a second farm visit, hosted by Perry and Lou Ann Meyer, and Jason and Jody Enter in New Ulm. The trade team concluded their trip with a tour of the Klossner Feed Mill on Monday afternoon.
